Ethiopian Opal Jewelry
A new opal deposit was discovered in 2008 in volcanic rock in Ethiopia’s Wollo Province. This new source of opal features a kaleidoscope of vivid colors from fiery sunset oranges to mysterious ocean blues. This white, opaque-to-translucent type of opal is remarkably durable. The rough opal is hand-mined by Ethiopian farmers and sold with the income benefitting their local villages. Each opal is then cut and hand-crafted with recycled fourteen and twenty-two karat gold by artists here in the USA. Each exceptional work of art is then signed by the artist.
